English translation

Ibn Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him) was among the participants of the Pledge of Ridwan. One of his daughters passed away. He was riding a mule and following her funeral procession when the women began to weep. He said to the women, "Do not recite elegies, for the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) forbade the recitation of elegies. However, any woman among you who wishes to shed tears may do so." Then he said four takbirs over her funeral, and after the fourth takbir, he stood for as long as the interval between two takbirs and supplicated. Then he said, "The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) used to do the same in funerals."
