English translation
It is narrated from Mustawrid bin Shaddad (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: The relation of this world to the Hereafter is only as much as the drop of water that sticks to the finger of one of you when he dips it into the sea; when he dips this finger, then takes it out and sees how much water clings to it. Saying this, the Prophet (ﷺ) gestured with his index finger. And once, I was in the caravan of the Prophet (ﷺ) when he passed by a dead goat whose skin had been removed and it had been thrown away. The Prophet (ﷺ) asked: Do you think that its owner considered this goat insignificant? They replied: O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), they threw it away only because they considered it insignificant. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: By Him in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad (ﷺ), as insignificant as this goat is in the eyes of its owner, the world is even more insignificant in the sight of Allah.
