حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ دُخَيْنٍ الْحَجْرِيِّ،، ، عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَقْبَلَ إِلَيْهِ رَهْطٌ، فَبَايَعَ تِسْعَةً وَأَمْسَكَ عَنْ وَاحِدٍ، فَقَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، بَايَعْتَ تِسْعَةً وَتَرَكْتَ هَذَا؟ قَالَ: " إِنَّ عَلَيْهِ تَمِيمَةً " فَأَدْخَلَ يَدَهُ فَقَطَعَهَا، فَبَايَعَهُ، وَقَالَ: " مَنْ عَلَّقَ تَمِيمَةً فَقَدْ أَشْرَكَ " (١)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Uqbah bin Aamir (may Allah be pleased with him) that once a delegation (of ten men) came to the service of the Prophet (ﷺ). The Prophet (ﷺ) accepted the allegiance of nine of them and withheld his hand from one. They asked, "O Messenger of Allah! (ﷺ) You accepted the allegiance of nine and left this person?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "He is wearing an amulet." Upon hearing this, he put his hand into his collar and tore the amulet into pieces. Then the Prophet (ﷺ) accepted his allegiance as well and said, "Whoever hangs an amulet commits shirk (associating partners with Allah)."
