Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), Zaid bin Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him), and Shibl (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were present in the service of the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) when a man stood up and said, "I adjure you to judge between us according to the Book of Allah." His opponent, who was more intelligent than him, stood up and said, "He speaks the truth; judge between us according to the Book of Allah, and allow me to speak." The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Speak." He said, "My son was working as a laborer for this man, and he committed adultery with his wife. People informed me that my son would be stoned, so I gave a slave girl and one hundred sheep as ransom for him. Then the people of knowledge informed me that my son should be given one hundred lashes and be exiled for one year, and this man's wife should be stoned. (Now you judge between us according to the Book of Allah.)" The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said, "By Him in Whose hand is my soul, I will judge between you according to the Book of Allah. The sheep and the slave girl will be returned to you, your son will be given one hundred lashes and exiled for one year." Then the Prophet (ﷺ) said to a man from the tribe of Aslam, 'Anis,' "Anis, go to this man's wife and ask her; if she confesses, then stone her." So he went to her, and she confessed, and he stoned her.
