حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الْخَيْرِ، قَالَ: عَرَضَ مَسْلَمَةُ بْنُ مُخَلَّدٍ - وَكَانَ أَمِيرًا عَلَى مِصْرَ - عَلَى رُوَيْفِعِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ، أَنْ يُوَلِّيَهُ الْعُشُورَ، فَقَالَ: إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: " إِنَّ صَاحِبَ الْمَكْسِ (١) فِي النَّارِ " (٢)، ،
Translation
English translation
Abu Al-Khair says that Muslamah bin Makhlad (may Allah be pleased with him), who was the governor of Egypt, offered Ruwaifi' (may Allah be pleased with him) the position of collecting 'ushr (tax), so he said: I heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) say that the tax collector will be in Hell.
