حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ غَيْلَانَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْمُفَضَّلُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي عَيَّاشُ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَّ شِيَيْمَ بْنَ بَيْتَانَ، أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ شَيْبَانَ الْقِتْبَانِيَّ، يَقُولُ: اسْتَخْلَفَ مَسْلَمَةُ بْنُ مُخَلَّدٍ رُوَيْفِعَ بْنَ ثَابِتٍ الْأَنْصَارِيَّ، عَلَى أَسْفَلِ الْأَرْضِ قَالَ: فَسِرْنَا مَعَهُ، قَالَ: قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " يَا رُوَيْفِعُ، لَعَلَّ الْحَيَاةَ سَتَطُولُ بِكَ بَعْدِي، فَأَخْبِرِ النَّاسَ أَنَّهُ مَنْ عَقَدَ لِحْيَتَهُ أَوْ تَقَلَّدَ وَتَرًا، أَوْ اسْتَنْجَى بِرَجِيعِ دَابَّةٍ، أَوْ بِعَظْمٍ، فَإِنَّ مُحَمَّدًا صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَرِيءٌ مِنْهُ " (٢)، ،
Translation
English translation
Shiyim bin Bitan says that Muslamah bin Makhlad (may Allah be pleased with him) assigned Ruwaifi' bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) a responsibility in a low-lying area of land. So we traveled with him, then Ruwaifi' (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Prophet (ﷺ) said to me, "O Ruwaifi'! It may be that you live a long life, so inform people that whoever ties a knot in his beard, or hangs a string around his neck, or performs istinja (purification) with the dung or bone of an animal, then Muhammad (ﷺ) is free from such a person."
