حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، عَنْ حَبَّانَ بْنِ وَاسِعٍ، عَنْ خَلَّادِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ، " أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا سَأَلَ جَعَلَ بَاطِنَ كَفَّيْهِ إِلَيْهِ، وَإِذَا اسْتَعَاذَ جَعَلَ ظَاهِرَهُمَا إِلَيْهِ " (١)،

Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Khallad bin Sa’ib (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would supplicate, he would turn the inner part of his palms towards his face, and when he would seek refuge from something, he would turn the backs of his palms towards his face.
