حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ حَكِيمٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، قَالَ: قَالَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ: كُنَّا جُلُوسًا بِالْأَفْنِيَةِ فَمَرَّ بِنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: " مَا لَكُمْ وَلِمَجَالِسِ الصُّعُدَاتِ، اجْتَنِبُوا مَجَالِسَ الصُّعُدَاتِ "، قَالَ: قُلْنَا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّا جَلَسْنَا لِغَيْرِ مَا بَأْسٍ نَتَذَاكَرُ وَنَتَحَدَّثُ، قَالَ: " فَأَعْطُوا الْمَجَالِسَ حَقَّهَا "، قُلْنَا: (١) وَمَا حَقُّهَا؟ قَالَ: " غَضُّ الْبَصَرِ، وَرَدُّ السَّلَامِ، وَحُسْنُ الْكَلَامِ " (٢)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Abu Talhah that once we were sitting in the courtyards of our houses when the Prophet (ﷺ) passed by. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Why do you sit on these elevations? Avoid sitting here. We said: O Messenger of Allah! We do not sit here for any sinful purpose, but only for conversation and mutual discussion. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Give the gatherings their due rights. We asked: What is their right? The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Lower your gaze, respond to greetings, and speak good words.
