حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ الشَّافِعِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى (١) عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ سَهْلِ بْنِ أَبِي حَثْمَةَ، أَنَّ سَهْلَ بْنَ أَبِي حَثْمَةَ أَخْبَرَهُ، وَرِجَالٌ مِنْ كُبَرَاءِ قَوْمِهُ: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لِحُوَيِّصَةَ، وَمُحَيِّصَةَ، وَعَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ: " أَتَحْلِفُونَ وَتَسْتَحِقُّونَ دَمَ صَاحِبِكُمْ؟ " قَالُوا: لَا، قَالَ: " فَتَحْلِفُ يَهُودُ؟ " قَالُوا: لَيْسُوا بِمُسْلِمِينَ، فَوَدَاهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ عِنْدِهِ (٢)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Sahl that the Prophet (ﷺ) said to Huwayyisah, Muhayyisah, and Abdur Rahman (may Allah be pleased with them): "If fifty men among you swear an oath and say that the Jews killed him..." They said, "How can we swear an oath about something we have not seen with our own eyes?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Then fifty Jews will swear an oath to absolve themselves and say that they did not kill him." They said, "O Messenger of Allah! How can we trust their oath when they are polytheists?" Upon this, the Prophet (ﷺ) paid the blood money from his own side.
