حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، حَدَّثَنِي بُشَيْرُ بْنُ يَسَارٍ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ أَبِي حَثْمَةَ، قَالَ: خَرَجَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَهْلٍ أَخُو بَنِي حَارِثَةَ يَعْنِي فِي نَفَرٍ مِنْ بَنِي حَارِثَةَ إِلَى خَيْبَرَ يَمْتَارُونَ مِنْهَا تَمْرًا، قَالَ: فَعُدِيَ عَلَى عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ سَهْلٍ فَكُسِرَتْ عُنُقُهُ، ثُمَّ طُرِحَ فِي مَنْهَرٍ مِنْ مَنَاهِرِ عُيُونِ خَيْبَرَ، وَفَقَدَهُ أَصْحَابُهُ، فَالْتَمَسُوهُ حَتَّى وَجَدُوهُ فَغَيَّبُوهُ، قَالَ: ثُمَّ قَدِمُوا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَقْبَلَ أَخُوهُ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ سَهْلٍ، وَابْنَا عَمِّهِ حُوَيِّصَةُ، وَمُحَيِّصَةُ - وَهُمَا كَانَا أَسَنَّ مِنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، وَكَانَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ذَا قَدَمِ (١) الْقَوْمِ، ، وَصَاحِبَ الدَّمِ - فَتَقَدَّمَ (١) لِذَلِكَ فَكَلَّمَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَبْلَ ابْنَيْ عَمِّهِ حُوَيِّصَةَ، وَمُحَيِّصَةَ، قَالَ: فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " الْكِبَرَ الْكِبَرَ " فَاسْتَأْخَرَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ، وَتَكَلَّمَ حُوَيِّصَةُ، ثُمَّ تَكَلَّمَ مُحَيِّصَةُ، ثُمَّ تَكَلَّمَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ، فَقَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ عُدِيَ عَلَى صَاحِبِنَا فَقُتِلَ، وَلَيْسَ لَنَا (٢) بِخَيْبَرَ عَدُوٌّ إِلَّا يَهُودَ، قَالَ: فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " تُسَمُّونَ قَاتِلَكُمْ ثُمَّ تَحْلِفُونَ عَلَيْهِ خَمْسِينَ يَمِينًا، ثُمَّ تُسْلِمُهُ " قَالَ: فَقَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَا كُنَّا لِنَحْلِفَ عَلَى مَا لَمْ نَشْهَدْ، قَالَ: " فَيَحْلِفُونَ لَكُمْ خَمْسِينَ يَمِينًا وَيَبْرَءُونَ مِنْ دَمِ صَاحِبِكُمْ " قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، مَا كُنَّا لِنَقْبَلَ أَيْمَانَ يَهُودَ، مَا هُمْ فِيهِ مِنَ الْكُفْرِ أَعْظَمُ مِنْ أَنْ يَحْلِفُوا عَلَى إِثْمٍ، قَالَ: فَوَدَاهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ عِنْدِهِ مِائَةَ نَاقَةٍ، قَالَ: يَقُولُ سَهْلٌ: " فَوَاللهِ مَا أَنْسَى بَكْرَةً مِنْهَا حَمْرَاءَ رَكَضَتْنِي وَأَنَا أَحُوزُهَا " (٣)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Sahl that once Abdullah bin Sahl Al-Ansari went with some people from Banu Haritha to Khaybar to buy dates. Someone attacked him, severed his neck, and threw his body into a canal of one of Khaybar’s springs. When his companions searched for him, they found Abdullah’s body. They buried him and presented themselves before the Prophet (ﷺ). Two of his cousins came to the Prophet (ﷺ); their brother’s name was Abdur Rahman bin Sahl, and the uncles’ names were Huwayyisa and Muhayyisa. Abdur Rahman began to speak before the Prophet (ﷺ), so the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Let the elders speak.” So one of his uncles began to speak—I have forgotten which of them was the elder—and said, “O Messenger of Allah! We found Abdullah’s body in the heart of Khaybar.” Then they mentioned the evil and enmity of the Jews. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Let fifty men among you swear an oath that the Jews killed him.” They said, “How can we swear an oath about something we did not see with our own eyes?” The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Then let fifty Jews swear an oath to declare their innocence and say that they did not kill him.” They said, “O Messenger of Allah! How can we trust their oath? They are polytheists.” So the Prophet (ﷺ) paid the blood money from his own side. One of the young camels from that blood money kicked me on the leg.
