Hayan says that once I went with Wathilah to Abu al-Aswad Jurashi during his illness of death. Wathilah greeted him and sat down. Abu al-Aswad took his right hand and began to rub it on his eyes and face, because Wathilah had pledged allegiance to the blessed hand of the Prophet (peace be upon him) with that hand. Wathilah said to him, "I want to ask you something." Abu al-Aswad asked, "What is that?" He asked, "What is your opinion about your Lord?" Abu al-Aswad replied with a gesture of his head, "It is good." He said, "Then rejoice, for I heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) say: Allah Almighty says, 'I am as My servant thinks of Me. So let him think of Me as he wishes.'"
