English translation
It is narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in a battle, probably Banu Mustaliq, when two slaves fought with each other, one of whom belonged to a Muhajir and the other to an Ansari. The Muhajir called out to the Muhajirin and the Ansari called out to the Ansar for help. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) heard this call and came out and said: Leave these foul slogans. Then he said: What are these cries of ignorance? What are these cries of the time of ignorance? Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) further says that when the Muhajirin came to Madinah, their number was less than the Ansar, but later their number increased. When Abdullah bin Ubayy came to know of this, he said: This has happened. By Allah, when we reach Madinah, the more honorable will expel the more humble from there. Umar heard this and came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! Give me permission to strike off the head of this hypocrite. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Umar, leave it, lest people start saying that Muhammad kills his own companions.
