حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ، أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ يَعْنِي الثَّوْرِيَّ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، قَالَ: بَعَثَنِي النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِحَاجَةٍ، فَجِئْتُ وَهُوَ يَسِيرُ عَلَى رَاحِلَتِهِ، وَوَجْهُهُ مِنْ قِبَلِ الْمَشْرِقِ، وَهُوَ يُومِئُ إِيمَاءً، فَكَلَّمْتُهُ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيَّ، فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ قَالَ: " إِنِّي كُنْتُ أُصَلِّي " (١)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (ﷺ) was going towards Banu Mustaliq, he sent me on an errand. When I returned, the Prophet (ﷺ) was praying on his camel. I wanted to speak, but the Prophet (ﷺ) gestured with his hand. This happened twice. Then I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) reciting, and he was indicating with his head. After completing the prayer, the Prophet (ﷺ) said: What happened regarding the task I sent you for? I did not reply because I was praying.
