حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى، وَحَسَنٌ، وَاللَّفْظُ لَفْظُ حَسَنٍ، قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ، قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ جَابِرًا، هَلْ سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: " الرَّجُلُ فِي صَلَاةٍ مَا انْتَظَرَ الصَّلَاةَ "؟ قَالَ: انْتَظَرْنَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَيْلَةً لِصَلَاةِ الْعَتَمَةِ،، ، فَاحْتَبَسَ عَلَيْنَا، حَتَّى كَانَ قَرِيبًا مِنْ شَطْرِ اللَّيْلِ، - أَوْ بَلَغَ ذَلِكَ - ثُمَّ جَاءَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَصَلَّيْنَا، ثُمَّ قَالَ: " اجْلِسُوا "، فَخَطَبَنَا، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " إِنَّ النَّاسَ قَدْ صَلَّوْا وَرَقَدُوا، وَأَنْتُمْ لَمْ تَزَالُوا فِي صَلَاةٍ مَا انْتَظَرْتُمُ الصَّلَاةَ " (١)،
Translation
English translation
Abu al-Zubair says that I asked Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him), "Did you hear the Prophet (ﷺ) say that as long as a person waits for the prayer, he is counted as being in prayer?" He replied, "Once we were waiting for the Prophet (ﷺ) for the 'Isha prayer. The Prophet (ﷺ) did not come until a portion of the night had passed. Then the Prophet (ﷺ) arrived, and we performed the prayer. Then he said, 'Sit down,' and while addressing us, he said, 'The people have performed the prayer and gone to sleep, but you remained in prayer the entire time you were waiting for the prayer.'"
