Original Arabic
حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، أَنَّهُ أَتَاهُ رَجُلٌ يَسْتَطْعِمُهُ، فَأَطْعَمَهُ شَطْرَ وَسْقِ شَعِيرٍ، فَمَا زَالَ الرَّجُلُ يَأْكُلُ مِنْهُ هُوَ وَامْرَأَتُهُ، وَوَصِيفٌ لَهُمْ حَتَّى كَالُوهُ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " لَوْ لَمْ تَكِيلُوهُ لَأَكَلْتُمْ مِنْهُ، وَلَقَامَ لَكُمْ " (٣)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that once a man came to the Prophet (ﷺ) to request some grain. The Prophet (ﷺ) gave him half a wasq. After that, the man, his wife, and their child continued to eat from it regularly until one day they measured it. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "If you had not measured it, you would have continued to take from it and it would have remained with you."
