Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that a monk sent a silk cloak as a gift to the Prophet (ﷺ). The Prophet (ﷺ) wore it at that time, but took it off after reaching home. Then, upon learning of the arrival of a delegation, Umar requested that the Prophet (ﷺ) wear that cloak. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Silk clothing is not suitable for us in this world; it will be suitable for us in the Hereafter. However, Umar, you may take it." Umar said, "You dislike it, and I should take it?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "I am not instructing you to wear it, but rather so that you may send it to the land of Iran and obtain wealth through it." Then the Prophet (ﷺ) himself sent that cloak to King Najashi, who had given refuge to the emigrant companions of the Prophet (ﷺ).
