حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ الْحُصَيْنِ، عَنْ وَاقِدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " إِذَا خَطَبَ أَحَدُكُمُ الْمَرْأَةَ، فَإِنْ اسْتَطَاعَ أَنْ يَنْظُرَ مِنْهَا إِلَى مَا يَدْعُوهُ إِلَى نِكَاحِهَا، فَلْيَفْعَلْ " قَالَ: " فَخَطَبْتُ جَارِيَةً مِنْ بَنِي سَلِمَةَ، فَكُنْتُ أَخْتَبِئُ (٢) لَهَا تَحْتَ الْكَرَبِ حَتَّى رَأَيْتُ مِنْهَا بَعْضَ مَا دَعَانِي إِلَى نِكَاحِهَا، فَتَزَوَّجْتُهَا " (٣)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: When one of you sends a proposal to a woman for marriage, and it is possible for him to see in her that quality because of which he wishes to marry her, then he should do so. Accordingly, I sent a marriage proposal to a girl from Banu Salamah, so I looked at her secretly from behind the branches of a tree until I saw in her that quality because of which I wished to marry her, so I married her.
