حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، (١) عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ سَعْدِ (٢) بْنِ زُرَارَةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ، أَنَّهُ: سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ، يَقُولُ: بَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَفَرٍ، فَرَأَى زِحَامًا وَرَجُلًا قَدْ ظُلِّلَ عَلَيْهِ، فَسَأَلَ عَنْهُ، فَقَالُوا: هَذَا صَائِمٌ، فَقَالَ: " لَيْسَ الْبِرَّ أَنْ تَصُومُوا فِي السَّفَرِ " (٣)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (ﷺ) was on a journey. On the way, he saw that people had gathered around a man and were shading him. Upon inquiry, the people said that he was fasting. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Fasting while on a journey is not an act of righteousness."
