Musnad Ahmad Hadith 14393

It is narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that once fever sought permission to present itself before the Prophet (ﷺ). The Prophet (ﷺ) asked: "Why have you come?" It replied, "I am «ام ملدم» (fever)." The Prophet (ﷺ) ordered it to go to the people of Quba. The distress they suffered from this fever, Allah knows best. So those people came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and complained about the fever. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "What do you want? If you wish, I will supplicate to Allah and He will remove it from you, and if you wish, it will become a means of purification for you." The people of Quba asked: "O Messenger of Allah! Can you do that?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Yes!" Upon this, they said: "Then let it remain."
