وَجَدْتُ فِي كِتَابِ أَبِي: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ، مَوْلَى بَنِي هَاشِمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا زَائِدَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لِأَبِي بَكْرٍ: " مَتَى تُوتِرُ؟ " قَالَ: أَوَّلَ اللَّيْلِ بَعْدَ الْعَتَمَةِ، قَالَ: " فَأَنْتَ يَا عُمَرُ "، قَالَ: آخِرَ اللَّيْلِ، قَالَ: " أَمَّا أَنْتَ يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ، فَأَخَذْتَ بِالثِّقَةِ، (١) وَأَمَّا أَنْتَ يَا عُمَرُ، فَأَخَذْتَ بِالْقُوَّةِ " (٢)، ، °
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (ﷺ) asked Abu Bakr As-Siddiq when he performed the Witr prayer. He replied: After the Isha prayer, in the first part of the night. The Prophet (ﷺ) asked the same question to Umar, and he replied: In the last part of the night. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Abu Bakr, you have preferred the aspect in which there is certainty, and Umar has preferred the aspect in which there is strength.
