Musnad Ahmad Hadith 14316

It is narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that when this verse was revealed « هُوَ الْقَادِرُ عَلَى أَنْ يَبْعَثَ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابًا مِنْ فَوْقِكُمْ » "that Allah is able to send punishment upon you from above you," the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "O Allah, I seek refuge in Your Essence." Then when the next part was revealed « أَوْ مِنْ تَحْتِ أَرْجُلِكُمْ » "or from beneath your feet," the Prophet (ﷺ) again said: "O Allah, I seek refuge in Your Essence." Then when the next part was revealed «‏ أَوْ يَلْبِسَكُمْ شِيَعًا وَيُذِيقَ بَعْضَكُمْ بَأْسَ بَعْضٍ » "or to confuse you in parties and make you taste the violence of one another," the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "This is lighter and easier than the previous ones."
