Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (ﷺ) fell from a horse and landed on a branch or trunk of a date-palm, and sprained his foot. We went to visit the Prophet (ﷺ) to inquire about his health, and there we saw him leading the prayer. We also joined in and prayed standing. After finishing the prayer, the Prophet (ﷺ) said: The Imam is appointed only so that he may be followed, so when he prays standing, you should also pray standing; if he prays sitting, you should also pray sitting. If he is sitting, then do not remain standing, as the people of Persia do with their chiefs and elders.
