حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، ح وَحَجَّاجٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي شُعْبَةُ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ، قَالَ حَجَّاجٌ فِي حَدِيثِهِ: قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ سَالِمًا، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ وُلِدَ لَهُ غُلَامٌ، فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يُسَمِّيَهُ مُحَمَّدًا، فَأَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَسَأَلَهُ، فَقَالَ: " أَحْسَنَتِ الْأَنْصَارُ، تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي، وَلَا تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي " (١)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that a child was born to an Ansari. He wanted to name him Muhammad and came to the Prophet (ﷺ) to ask. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: The Ansar have done well by naming after my name, so name after my name, but do not take my kunyah (patronymic) as your kunyah.
