English translation
It is narrated from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once some people from the tribes of Ri'l, Dhakwan, 'Usayyah, and Banu Lihyan came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and claimed that they had accepted Islam and requested the Prophet (ﷺ) for support for their people. The Prophet (ﷺ) sent seventy Ansari companions (may Allah be pleased with them) with them for assistance. Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that we used to call them "Qurra" (reciters). These people would cut wood during the day and spend the night in prayer. Those people took all these companions with them, and when they reached near Bi'r Ma'unah, they deceived the noble companions (may Allah be pleased with them) and martyred them. When the Prophet (ﷺ) learned of this, he recited Qunoot Nazilah in the Fajr prayer for a month and supplicated against the tribes of Ri'l, Dhakwan, 'Usayyah, and Banu Lihyan. Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the words of these companions (may Allah be pleased with them): "Convey this message from us to our people that we have met our Lord, He is pleased with us and we are pleased with Him," used to be recited in the Noble Qur'an for a period, but later their recitation was abrogated.
