حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " لَمَّا أُسْرِيَ بِي مَرَرْتُ بِرِجَالٍ تُقْرَضُ شِفَاهُهُمْ بِمَقَارِيضَ مِنْ نَارٍ " قَالَ: " فَقُلْتُ: مَنْ هَؤُلَاءِ يَا جِبْرِيلُ؟ قَالَ: هَؤُلَاءِ خُطَبَاءُ مِنْ أُمَّتِكَ يَأْمُرُونَ النَّاسَ بِالْبِرِّ وَيَنْسَوْنَ أَنْفُسَهُمْ، وَهُمْ يَتْلُونَ الْكِتَابَ أَفَلَا يَعْقِلُونَ " (٣)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: On the night of Mi'raj, I passed by some people whose mouths were being cut with scissors of fire. I asked, "Who are these people?" It was said, "These are the preachers of your Ummah who used to enjoin good upon the people but forgot themselves, and they used to recite the Book. Did they not understand?"
