Original Arabic
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ، حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ الطَّوِيلُ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَدْخُلُ عَلَى أُمِّ سُلَيْمٍ وَلَهَا ابْنٌ مِنْ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ يُكْنَى أَبَا عُمَيْرٍ، وَكَانَ يُمَازِحُهُ، فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ فَرَآهُ حَزِينًا، فَقَالَ: " مَالِي أَرَى أَبَا عُمَيْرٍ حَزِينًا؟ " فَقَالُوا: مَاتَ نُغَرُهُ الَّذِي كَانَ يَلْعَبُ بِهِ، قَالَ: فَجَعَلَ يَقُولُ: " أَبَا عُمَيْرٍ، مَا فَعَلَ النُّغَيْرُ " (١)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) had a son whose name was Abu Umair. The Prophet (ﷺ) used to joke with him. One day, the Prophet (ﷺ) saw him sad and said, "O Abu Umair! What happened to the Nughair (a bird that had died)?"
