Original Arabic
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ يَعْنِي الْأَنْصَارِيَّ، حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ: " سَمِعَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نِدَاءَ صَبِيٍّ وَهُوَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ، فَخَفَّفَ، فَظَنَنَّا أَنَّهُ إِنَّمَا فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ رَحْمَةً لِلصَّبِيِّ إِذْ عَلِمَ أَنَّ أُمَّهُ مَعَهُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ " (٣)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (ﷺ) heard the sound of a child crying while leading the prayer, so he shortened the prayer. We understood that the Prophet (ﷺ) had shortened the prayer because of the child's mother; this was an expression of his compassion for her.
