Translation

English translation

Humaid (may Allah have mercy on him) says that a person asked Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) whether the Prophet (ﷺ) used to raise his hands in supplication. He replied that once, on a Friday, people said to the Prophet (ﷺ): "O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)! The rain has stopped, the land has become dry, and the livestock are being destroyed." Upon hearing this, the Prophet (ﷺ) raised his hands so high that I could see the whiteness of his blessed armpits, and the Prophet (ﷺ) supplicated for rain. At the time when the Prophet (ﷺ) raised his blessed hands, we could not see any clouds in the sky, but when the prayer was finished, the young men living in nearby houses had difficulty returning to their homes. When the next Friday came, people said: "O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)! The buildings of the houses have collapsed and the riders have been forced to stop outside Madinah." Upon hearing this, the Prophet (ﷺ) supplicated to Allah: "O Allah! Let this rain fall around us, not upon us." Thus, the rain moved away from Madinah.
