Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (ﷺ) punished for drinking alcohol with branches and shoes. Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) gave (forty lashes), but when during the caliphate of Umar Farooq (may Allah be pleased with him) people came close to various cities and towns (and their influences began to appear among them), Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked his companions, "What is your opinion regarding this?" Abdur Rahman bin Auf (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the opinion that the punishment should be fixed equal to the lowest prescribed limit, so Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) fixed the punishment for drinking alcohol at eighty lashes.
