حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلٌ، وَحَسَنٌ الْأَشْيَبُ، قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ، حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ حَسَنٌ: عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، وَحُمَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَرَّ عَلَى بَغْلَتِهِ الشَّهْبَاءِ بِحَائِطٍ لِبَنِي النَّجَّارِ، فَسَمِعَ أَصْوَاتَ قَوْمٍ يُعَذَّبُونَ فِي قُبُورِهِمْ، فَحَاصَتِ الْبَغْلَةُ. فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " لَوْلَا أَنْ لَا تَدَافَنُوا، لَسَأَلْتُ اللهَ أَنْ يُسْمِعَكُمْ عَذَابَ الْقَبْرِ " (٢)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (ﷺ) was riding his white mule and passed by a garden of Banu Najjar in Madinah Munawwarah. There, punishment was being inflicted in a grave, so the mule shied. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "If you people would not stop burying your dead, I would have prayed to Allah to let you hear the sound of the punishment of the grave."
