Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that Rubayyi‘, who was the paternal aunt of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), broke the tooth of a girl. Then her family offered compensation to the family of the girl, but they refused. Then they asked them for forgiveness, but they also refused to forgive and came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and demanded retribution (qisas). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ordered qisas. In the meantime, her brother and Anas’s (may Allah be pleased with him) uncle, Anas bin Nadr, arrived and said, “O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! Will the tooth of Rubayyi‘ be broken?” By the One Who has sent you with the truth, her tooth will not be broken.” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Anas! The decision of the Book of Allah is qisas.” In the meantime, they became pleased and forgave them and abandoned the demand for qisas. Upon this, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “There are some servants of Allah who, if they swear an oath by Allah regarding something, Allah certainly fulfills their oath.”
