Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (ﷺ) married Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her), Umm Sulaim (may Allah be pleased with her) prepared a sweet dish in a stone vessel and sent it as a gift to the Prophet (ﷺ). The Prophet (ﷺ) said to me, "Go and invite whoever you meet on the way." I did so, and people kept coming, eating, and leaving. The Prophet (ﷺ) placed his hand on the food and prayed, and said whatever Allah willed. I did not leave a single person whom I met without inviting him, and all the people ate and drank to their fill and left. But some people remained there and started talking at length. The Prophet (ﷺ) felt shy to say anything to them, so he left them sitting in the house and went out himself. Upon this, Allah revealed this verse: "O you who believe! Do not enter the houses of the Prophet until permission is given to you for a meal."
