English translation

It is narrated from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) came into the share of Dihyah Kalbi (may Allah be pleased with him). Someone said, "O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)! A very beautiful slave girl has come into the share of Dihyah." The Prophet (ﷺ) bought her in exchange for seven persons and, after purchasing her, sent her to Umm Sulaim (may Allah be pleased with her) so that she could adorn and prepare her as a bride. During this time, people began to wonder whether the Prophet (ﷺ) would marry her or keep her as a slave girl. But when the Prophet (ﷺ) made her ride on a mount, placed a veil, and seated her behind himself, people understood that the Prophet (ﷺ) had married her. When they neared Madinah Munawwarah, people, according to their custom, began to jump down from their mounts. The Prophet (ﷺ) also began to dismount in the same way, but the she-camel slipped and the Prophet (ﷺ) fell to the ground, and Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) also fell. The other noble wives were watching and said, "May Allah distance this Jewess and do such and such to her." Meanwhile, the Prophet (ﷺ) stood up, placed a veil over her, and then seated her behind himself.
