حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ، وَابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ: سَأَلَ أَصْحَابُ النَّبِيِّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالُوا: إِنَّ أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ يُسَلِّمُونَ عَلَيْنَا، فَكَيْفَ نَرُدُّ عَلَيْهِمْ؟ قَالَ: " فَقُولُوا: وَعَلَيْكُمْ " وَحَجَّاجٌ مِثْلَهُ قَالَ: شُعْبَةُ لَمْ أَسْأَلْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ هَلْ سَمِعْتَهُ مِنْ أَنَسٍ (٣)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) asked the Prophet (ﷺ) about this issue: The People of the Book greet us with Salam, what should we reply to them? The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Just say "Wa Alaikum" in response.
