حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ قَالَ: سُئِلَ أَنَسٌ عَنْ صَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ، فَقَالَ: " مَا كُنَّا نَشَاءُ أَنْ نَرَاهُ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ مُصَلِّيًا إِلَّا رَأَيْنَاهُ، وَمَا كُنَّا نَشَاءُ أَنْ نَرَاهُ نَائِمًا إِلَّا رَأَيْنَاهُ، وَكَانَ يَصُومُ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ حَتَّى نَقُولَ: لَا يُفْطِرُ مِنْهُ شَيْئًا، وَيُفْطِرُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ: لَا يَصُومُ مِنْهُ شَيْئًا " (١)، ،
Translation
English translation
Humaid says that a person asked Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) about the night prayer of the Prophet (ﷺ), so he replied: "We could see the Prophet (ﷺ) praying at whatever time of the night we wished to see him praying, and if we intended to see him sleeping, we could see him sleeping as well. Similarly, in some months the Prophet (ﷺ) would fast continuously to the extent that we would think he would not leave any fast, and at other times he would leave fasting to the extent that we would say perhaps now the Prophet (ﷺ) will not fast anymore."
