حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ: قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَدِينَةَ وَلَهُمْ يَوْمَانِ يَلْعَبُونَ فِيهِمَا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ، فَقَالَ: " إِنَّ اللهَ قَدْ أَبْدَلَكُمْ بِهِمَا خَيْرًا مِنْهُمَا: يَوْمَ الْفِطْرِ، وَيَوْمَ النَّحْرِ " (١)،

Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (ﷺ) arrived in Madinah, he found that there were two days in which the people used to celebrate festivals since the days of ignorance. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Allah has given you better days than these in exchange—Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.
