حَدَّثَنَا أَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْرَائِيلَ إِسْمَاعِيلُ الْمُلَائِيُّ، عَنْ عَطِيَّةَ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ قَالَ (٢) : " وُجِدَ قَتِيلٌ بَيْنَ قَرْيَتَيْنِ - أَوْ مَيِّتٌ - فَأَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَذُرِعَ مَا بَيْنَ الْقَرْيَتَيْنِ إِلَى أَيِّهِمَا كَانَ أَقْرَبَ؟ فَوُجِدَ أَقْرَبَ إِلَى أَحَدِهِمَا بِشِبْرٍ - قَالَ: فَكَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى شِبْرِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَجَعَلَهُ عَلَى الَّذِي كَانَ أَقْرَبَ " (٣)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Abu Saeed Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) found a man murdered between two settlements. At the command of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), the distance between the two settlements was measured. That span of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is still before my eyes. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sent him to the settlement which was nearer of the two.
