حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا خَلِيفَةُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ غَالِبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا، أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَيُّ الْأَعْمَالِ أَفْضَلُ؟ قَالَ: " الْإِيمَانُ بِاللهِ، وَالْجِهَادُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ " قَالَ: فَإِنْ لَمْ أَسْتَطِعْ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ: " تُعِينُ ضَائِعًا أَوْ تَصْنَعُ لِأَخْرَقَ " قَالَ: فَإِنْ لَمْ أَسْتَطِعْ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ (١) : " احْبِسْ نَفْسَكَ عَنِ الشَّرِّ، فَإِنَّهَا صَدَقَةٌ تَصَدَّقُ بِهَا عَلَى نَفْسِكَ " (٢)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the court of the Prophet and asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Which deed is the best?" The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) replied, "To have faith in Allah and to strive in the way of Allah." He asked, "What if I am not able to do that?" The Prophet said, "Then keep yourself away from evil and sinful deeds, for this too is an excellent charity that you will give on your own behalf."
