Musnad Ahmad Hadith 10785

It is narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said: The best charity is that which leaves something behind (do not spend all your wealth). The upper hand is better than the lower hand, and you should begin giving charity with those who are under your responsibility. Someone asked Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) about the individuals under one’s responsibility, so he replied: Your wife says, “Feed me or divorce me.” The servant says, “Feed me or sell me to someone else.” The children say, “Whose care are you leaving us in?”
