Musnad Ahmad Hadith 10766

Quloos says that Shahab bin Mudlij reached a village and camped there. During this time, his son abused someone. He said, "O son of the person who became an Arab after migration." Then Shahab reached Madinah Munawwarah, where he met Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him). He heard Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) saying that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Among the people, two persons are the most virtuous: one is the person who fights in the way of Allah until he reaches a place that poses a threat to the enemy, and the other is the person who lives on the outskirts of a village, offers the five prayers, pays the due right of his wealth, and continues to worship his Lord until death." Upon hearing this, Shahab knelt on both his knees and said, "O Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), did you hear this hadith yourself from the Noble Prophet (ﷺ)?" He replied, "Yes!" Upon this, Shahab returned to his village and settled there.
