حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، يَقُولُ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " لَوْلَا أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى أُمَّتِي - أَوْ عَلَى النَّاسِ - لَأَحْبَبْتُ أَنْ لَا أَتَخَلَّفَ خَلْفَ سَرِيَّةٍ تَخْرُجُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ، وَلَكِنْ لَا أَجِدُ مَا أَحْمِلُهُمْ عَلَيْهِ، وَلَا يَجِدُونَ مَا يَتَحَمَّلُونَ عَلَيْهِ، فَيَخْرُجُونَ، فَوَدِدْتُ أَنْ أُقَاتِلَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ فَأُقْتَلَ، ثُمَّ أُحْيَا ثُمَّ أُقْتَلَ، ثُمَّ أُحْيَا ثُمَّ أُقْتَلَ " (١)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said: If I did not think that it would put hardship on the Muslims, I would never stay behind from any expedition set out in the way of Allah. But I do not have enough means to provide them with mounts, nor do they themselves possess mounts so that they could set out. I wish that I could fight in the way of Allah and attain martyrdom, then be granted life again, participate in jihad, and be martyred, then participate in jihad and be martyred again.
