حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ، حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ، (٢) عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ: لَمَّا فُتِحَتْ خَيْبَرُ، أُهْدِيَتْ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ، شَاةٌ فِيهَا سُمٌّ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " اجْمَعُوا لِي مَنْ كَانَ هَاهُنَا مِنَ الْيَهُودِ "، فَجَمَعُوا لَهُ، فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " إِنِّي سَائِلُكُمْ عَنْ شَيْءٍ، فَهَلْ أَنْتُمْ صَادِقِيَّ عَنْهُ؟ " قَالُوا: نَعَمْ، يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ، فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " مَنْ أَبُوكُمْ؟ " قَالُوا: أَبُونَا فُلَانٌ، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " بَلْ كَذَبْتُمْ، أَبُوكُمْ فُلَانٌ "، قَالُوا: صَدَقْتَ وَبَرَرْتَ، قَالَ لَهُمْ: " هَلْ أَنْتُمْ صَادِقِيَّ عَنْ شَيْءٍ سَأَلْتُكُمْ عَنْهُ؟ " قَالُوا: نَعَمْ، يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ، وَإِنْ كَذَبْنَاكَ عَرَفْتَ كَذِبَنَا كَمَا عَرَفْتَهُ فِي أَبِينَا، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " مَنْ أَهْلُ النَّارِ؟ " قَالُوا: نَكُونُ فِيهَا يَسِيرًا، ثُمَّ تَخْلُفُونَنَا فِيهَا، فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " لَا نَخْلُفُكُمْ فِيهَا أَبَدًا "، ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُمْ: " هَلْ أَنْتُمْ صَادِقِيَّ عَنْ شَيْءٍ سَأَلْتُكُمْ عَنْهُ؟ " فَقَالُوا: نَعَمْ، يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ، فَقَالَ لَهُمْ: " هَلْ جَعَلْتُمْ فِي هَذِهِ الشَّاةِ سُمًّا؟ " قَالُوا: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: " مَا حَمَلَكُمْ عَلَى ذَلِكَ؟ " قَالُوا: أَرَدْنَا إِنْ كُنْتَ كَاذِبًا أَنْ نَسْتَرِيحَ مِنْكَ، وَإِنْ كُنْتَ نَبِيًّا لَمْ تَضُرَّكَ (١)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when Khaybar was conquered, a goat was sent as a gift to the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) from the Jews, which was actually poisoned. The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) came to know of it. He (ﷺ) said, "Gather all the Jews who are here." So they were gathered. The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said to them, "I want to ask you something. Will you speak the truth?" They said, "Yes, O Abu al-Qasim (ﷺ)." The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) asked, "Who is your father?" They said, "So-and-so man." The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said, "You are lying. Your father is so-and-so." They said, "You have spoken the truth." Then the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said, "If I ask you something, will you answer it correctly?" They agreed and said, "If we lie, you will find out yourself, just as you found out about our father." The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) asked, "Who are the people of Hell?" They said, "For a while, we will remain in it, then your Ummah (nation)." The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said, "We will never follow you into Hell." Then the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said, "If I ask you something, will you answer it correctly?" They agreed. The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) asked, "Did you put poison in this goat?" They admitted it. The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) asked, "Why did you do this?" They said, "We wanted that if you (God forbid) are a liar, we would be rid of you, and if you are a true Prophet, then it would not harm you."
