حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ: جَاءَ مَاعِزُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ الْأَسْلَمِيُّ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنِّي قَدْ زَنَيْتُ، فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ ثُمَّ جَاءَهُ مِنْ شِقِّهِ الْأَيْمَنِ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنِّي قَدْ زَنَيْتُ، فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ،، (١) ثُمَّ جَاءَهُ مِنْ شِقِّهِ الْأَيْسَرِ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنِّي قَدْ زَنَيْتُ، فأعرض عنه، ثم قال يا رسول الله إني قد زنيت، (٢) فَقَالَ لَهُ ذَلِكَ أَرْبَعَ مَرَّاتٍ، فَقَالَ: " انْطَلِقُوا بِهِ فَارْجُمُوهُ "، قَالَ: فَانْطَلَقُوا بِهِ، فَلَمَّا مَسَّتْهُ الْحِجَارَةُ أَدْبَرَ يشْتَدُّ، فَلَقيَهُ (٣) رَجُلٌ فِي يَدِهِ لَحْيُ جَمَلٍ، فَضَرَبَهُ بِهِ، فَذُكِرَ (٤) لِرَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِرَارُهُ حِينَ مَسَّتْهُ الْحِجَارَةُ، قَالَ: " فَهَلَّا تَرَكْتُمُوهُ " (٥)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from the previous chain that Ma'iz bin Malik Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the service of the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) and said, "O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), I have committed the sin of adultery." Upon hearing this, the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) turned his face away. He came from the right side and said the same thing. The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) again turned his face away. Then he came from the left side and said the same thing. The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) again turned away. But when he confessed for the fourth time, the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Take him away and carry out the punishment of stoning upon him." The noble companions (may Allah be pleased with them) took him away. The noble companions (may Allah be pleased with them) mentioned to the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) that when stones struck him, he was running away. The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Then why did you not let him go?"
