حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ: " أَشْعَرُ كَلِمَةٍ قَالَتْهَا الْعَرَبُ كَلِمَةُ (١) لَبِيدِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ:، [البحر الطويل]، أَلَا كُلُّ شَيْءٍ مَا خَلَا اللهَ بَاطِلُ " (٢)،

Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) saying from the pulpit that the truest verse ever spoken by a poet is the verse of Labid bin Rabi’ah: "Behold! Everything except Allah is false (perishable)."
