حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ الثَّوْرِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " أَصْدَقُ كَلِمَةٍ قَالَهَا الشَّاعِرُ:، [البحر الطويل]، أَلَا كُلُّ شَيْءٍ مَا خَلَا اللهَ بَاطِلُ،، وَكَادَ أُمَيَّةُ بْنُ أَبِي الصَّلْتِ أَنْ يُسْلِمَ " (٢)،

Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said: The truest verse ever spoken by a poet is this: Beware! Everything besides Allah is false (perishable), and it was near that Umayyah bin Abi al-Salt would have accepted Islam.
