حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ الْهَاشِمِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُبَيْدٍ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا مَرَّتْ بِهِ جِنَازَةٌ سَأَلَهُمْ: " أَعَلَيْهِ دَيْنٌ؟ "، فَإِنْ قَالُوا: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: " تَرَكَ وَفَاءً؟ "، فَإِنْ، ، قَالُوا: نَعَمْ، صَلَّى عَلَيْهِ، وَإِلَّا، قَالَ: " صَلُّوا عَلَى صَاحِبِكُمْ " (١)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that when a funeral was brought to the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), he would first ask, "Does this person have any debt?" If the people said, "Yes," the Prophet (ﷺ) would ask, "Has he left anything to repay it?" If the people said, "Yes!" then the Prophet (ﷺ) would lead the funeral prayer for him. But if they replied in the negative, the Prophet (ﷺ) would say, "You should offer the funeral prayer of your companion yourselves."
