English translation

Narrated from Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that one day the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) offered the Fajr prayer and, upon returning, passed by the women present in the mosque, stopped there, and said: "O group of women, I have not seen any creature more deficient in intelligence and religion, yet more capable of seizing the hearts of wise men, than you. And I have seen that on the Day of Resurrection, the majority of the people of Hell will be from among you. Therefore, give charity as much as you can to seek nearness to Allah." Among those women was the wife of Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him). She went home and narrated the saying of the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) to Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) and took her jewelry to leave. Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) asked, "Where are you taking this?" She replied, "I wish to seek nearness to Allah and His Messenger (ﷺ) through this, so that Allah does not make me among the people of Hell." He said, "Bring it to me and give it in charity to me and my child, for we are deserving of it." His wife said, "By Allah, this cannot be. I will take it to the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) himself." So she went and sought permission to enter the house of Prophethood. People said, "O Messenger of Allah! Zainab seeks permission." The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) asked, "Which Zainab?" (as this was the name of several women). The people replied, "The wife of Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him)." He said, "Allow her to enter." So she entered and said, "O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), I heard a hadith from you. When I returned to my husband Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), I narrated that hadith to him and took my jewelry to come, so that I may seek nearness to Allah and His Messenger (ﷺ), hoping that Allah will not count me among the people of Hell. Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said to me, 'Give it in charity to me and my child, for we are deserving of it.' I told him that I would first seek permission from the Noble Prophet (ﷺ)." The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Give it to them in charity, for they are indeed deserving of it." Then she said, "O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), please tell me, when you stood among us, I heard you say another thing: 'I have not seen any creature more capable of seizing the hearts of wise men, yet more deficient in intelligence and religion, than you.' O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), what is meant by deficiency in our religion and intelligence?" He said, "Do you not remember the deficiency in your religion? Those days that come upon you, and as long as Allah wills, you remain in that state, you cannot perform prayer or fast; this is the deficiency in religion. As for the deficiency in intelligence, it is that the testimony of a woman is half that of a man."
