حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ، حَدَّثَنَا عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا ضَمْضَمُ بْنُ جَوْسٍ الْهِفَّانِيُّ، سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، يَقُولُ: " كَانَ فِي بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ رَجُلَانِ، أَحَدُهُمَا مُجْتَهِدٌ فِي الْعِبَادَةِ، وَالْآخَرُ مُسْرِفٌ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ، وَكَانَا مُتَآخِيَيْنِ، فَكَانَ الْمُجْتَهِدُ لَا يَزَالُ يَرَى عَلَى الْآخَرِ ذَنْبًا، فَيَقُولُ: وَيْحَكَ أَقْصِرْ، فَيَقُولُ الْمُذْنِبُ: خَلِّنِي وَرَبِّي " فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَ حَدِيثِ أَبِي عَامِرٍ (١)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) say: Among the Children of Israel there were two men, one of whom was greatly devoted to worship and the other was a great sinner. There was a bond of brotherhood between them. Whenever the worshipper saw the other person committing a sin, he would say to him, "Refrain from this." But he would reply, "Leave me to my Lord and myself..." Then the narrator mentioned the entire hadith.
