حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ (١) يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ عُتَيْبَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، قَالَ: أَمَرَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ أَبِيعَ غُلامَيْنِ أَخَوَيْنِ، فَبِعْتُهُمَا، وَفَرَّقْتُ بَيْنَهُمَا، فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: " أَدْرِكْهُمَا فَأَرْجِعْهُمَا، وَلا تَبِعْهُمَا إِلا جَمِيعًا " (٢)،
Translation
English translation
It was narrated that `Ali bin Abi Talib (رضي الله عنه) said:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) instructed me to sell two slaves who were brothers, so I sold them and separated them. I told the Prophet (ﷺ) about that and he said: `Go and find them and take them back, and do not sell them except together.`
