حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ زَائِدَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " أَصْدَقُ بَيْتٍ قَالَهُ الشَّاعِرُ:، [البحر الطويل]، أَلَا كُلُّ شَيْءٍ مَا خَلَا اللهَ بَاطِلُ، وَكَادَ ابْنُ أَبِي الصَّلْتِ يُسْلِمُ " (١)، ،

Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said: The truest verse ever spoken by a poet is this: Remember, everything besides Allah is false (perishable), and Umayyah bin Abi al-Salt was close to accepting Islam.
